Is my PDF uploaded to your servers?

Yes. Unlike our browser-only PDF tools, PDF to Word is a server-side conversion: your file is uploaded to our API server and forwarded to CloudConvert, which performs the conversion. Job records on our server expire and are auto-deleted within 15 minutes of upload, after which the converted file is no longer downloadable. CloudConvert independently deletes its own copy after at most 24 hours per their published retention policy.

Will the formatting match the original PDF exactly?

Vector PDFs (those exported from Word, Pages, design tools, or print drivers) usually convert with very high fidelity — paragraphs, headings, lists, and most tables come through cleanly. Scanned or image-only PDFs go through OCR, which produces selectable text but may shift layout, especially around multi-column pages and complex tables. Always proof the result before sending.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. When you convert a PDF that contains only images (a scanned book, a phone photo of a document, etc.), the converter runs OCR so the resulting Word document contains selectable, searchable text. Accuracy depends on scan quality — clean, high-contrast scans of standard fonts work best.

What file size and page count are supported?

Files up to 50 MB and PDFs up to 100 pages are supported. Larger documents are rejected before upload to keep the queue responsive. If you need to convert a longer document, split it into chunks first using our free Split PDF tool, then convert each part.

Is PDF to Word free to use?

Yes. Like the rest of Converter.Plus, PDF to Word is free and ad-supported. There's no signup, no watermark, and no email required. A small per-conversion credit is metered server-side to prevent abuse, with a generous free monthly quota for everyone.

Are password-protected PDFs supported?

No. Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs are rejected. Remove the password first using your PDF reader's export feature, then convert the unprotected copy.
