DWG Viewer — Open and Preview AutoCAD Drawings Online
Open and preview .dwg AutoCAD drawings on any device. Convert any DWG to PDF in one click and view it instantly — no AutoCAD, no signup, no install.
A DWG file is the proprietary native format of AutoCAD. It cannot be opened by macOS Preview, Adobe Reader, image viewers, browser tabs, or any office suite. The fastest privacy-respecting way to look at the contents of a DWG on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Chromebook, or stripped-down work laptop is to convert it to a PDF and open the PDF — every device on Earth has a built-in PDF viewer. Converter.Plus does the conversion server-side via the Open Design Alliance engine, then deletes both the input DWG and the output PDF within 15 minutes.
In-browser DWG viewer — coming soon
We're building a private, browser-side viewer for DWG files. In the meantime, the fastest way to preview a DWG on any device is to convert it to PDF and open the PDF — no install required.
How to view a DWG file today
- Convert to PDF: Open the DWG-to-PDF converter, drop your .dwg file, and download the PDF that comes out.
- Open the PDF: Use any PDF reader on any device — macOS Preview, Adobe Reader, your browser, your phone's share-sheet preview, or your email client.
- Zoom and inspect: PDFs are vector, so you can zoom in indefinitely on dimensions, line weights, and text without pixelation.
- Round-trip back to DWG (optional): If you need to edit, run the PDF through the PDF-to-DWG converter to get an editable .dwg back.

About the DWG format
DWG (Drawing) is the native binary format used by Autodesk AutoCAD since 1982. It stores 2D and 3D vector geometry — lines, polylines, arcs, splines, hatches, dimensions, text, blocks, and paper-space layouts — alongside layer definitions, line weights, line types, and viewport settings. DWG is a proprietary, versioned format: AutoCAD 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2018, and 2024 each introduced new structures, and older releases cannot reliably open files saved in newer ones.
Because DWG is proprietary, no operating system, web browser, document reader, or office suite can preview it natively. macOS Preview, Adobe Reader, Google Drive, Outlook attachments, and Slack thumbnails all show "preview not available" for .dwg files. Even Autodesk's own free DWG TrueView is a 1 GB Windows-only download. The pragmatic alternative for everyday viewing — especially on a Mac, phone, or locked-down work laptop — is to convert the DWG to a PDF and open the PDF. PDFs are universal, vector, zoom-friendly, and supported by every device made in the past two decades. That is exactly what this page helps you do.
